Vernon Historians Meeting and Program
The Vernon Historians will hold their July quarterly meeting downstairs at the Vernon Town Office Building on Sunday, July 16th, beginning at 1:30 p.m. A brief business meeting will be followed immediately by an historical program featuring guest speaker First Lieutenant Jay H. Karpin, a decorated World War II bombardier and nose gunner. Lieutenant Karpin was assigned to the U.S. Eighth Air Force, based in England, and flew his first combat mission on D-Day. He flew a total of 35 combat missions and received, among many combat awards, the Distinguished Flying Cross, Presidential Unit Citation, and a citation from Lieutenant General James Doolittle. Lieutenant Karpin was the speaker at the 2017 Vernon Historians Memorial Day Program and now will share more of his life experiences. The program is free of charge and open to members of the public of all ages. Please join us!
