At their December 19, 2016, meeting, the members of the Vernon Selectboard voted to reduce the budget of the Vernon Free Library by $39,900.
The Library is petitioning to place an article before the voters at the March 2017 Town Meeting to restore $39,900 to the Library budget.
Since Entergy announced the closing of Vermont Yankee in 2013, the library has closed one day a week, cut the assistant position, and cut the Library budget by 12 percent. Copies of the petition are available to sign at the Library.
During the week January 9, the Vernon Free Library Trustees will be staffing an information table in the Town Office Building lobby, as an opportunity for residents to stop by to meet the Trustees and find out all the services that your Library has to offer.
