We’d love to have you as a neighbor! Vernon is a quiet, scenic, rural, mutually supportive community in a great location!

We have a great elementary school, and with school choice (see below), you can literally choose your own secondary school (grades 7-12) in or out of state. Enjoy our rec center with pool and other activities, and many other recreational opportunities in the region (see lists and links below).

As the southeastern-most town in Vermont, we’re closer to Boston than anywhere else in Vermont (a little over two hours to downtown Boston). It’s also not far from Bradley International Airport in Connecticut, plus we’re close to I-91 Exit 1 and to the Amtrak station in Brattleboro. Great shopping is available nearby in Brattleboro, Greenfield (Mass.), Keene (N.H.), or a bit farther in Northampton (Mass.).

Vernon information:

Schools:

  • Vernon Elementary School
  • Brattleboro Union High School
  • School choice: In addition to having Brattleboro Union High School available to them, Vernon residents benefit from Vermont’s “school choice” option which enables them to send secondary grade (7-12) students to a choice of schools under policies set by the Vernon School Board and the Vermont Board of Education. The Vernon policy can be found here. In practice, parents can send middle school and high school age children to any school in Vermont approved by the Vermont Board of Education, or to any out-of-state school approved by that state’s comparable authority, with tuition paid up to the average announced tuition level for Vermont middle or high schools as stated by the Vermont Department of Education. Parochial schools are not eligible. All school choice elections must be approved on an annual basis by the Vernon School Board.
