Please attend BUHS and Vernon Elementary school budget meetings!

The School Budget is the area of the town budget that has the greatest impact on our property taxes. As schools consolidate to being run by the superintendent of schools–and they almost are already — we will have less and less say in how our money is spent (see Act 46 on education spending in Vermont).

I am a proponent of public education: I served 10 years on a high school board, as well as serving on a board that advocates for early childhood education. However, as a taxpayer, there is only so much money in my pockets and I cannot afford to keep paying more when I have to be cutting back at home with my own expenses.

All of us need to be really aware and involved. Even small savings add up: A penny saved here and a penny saved there eventually is a dollar saved!
